What is Financial Technology and Why is it Taking Over?
Financial Technology, Fin-Tech— you may know it by a lot of names. It sounds complicated, it might even sound slightly scary. But in reality, we’ve all been using it in our day to day lives, which is why it’s so important.
Financial Technology refers to any application of innovative technologies to products and services in the financial industry. This includes things we use in our daily lives such as smart wallets like GoPay, DANA, or OVOPay. Going even further back, the rise of online banking all the way to telegraph based transfers are all part of Fin-Tech developments. These are without doubt some of the most important human inventions which shaped the economic landscape today.
Now, given the importance of Financial Technology, you may be asking how BINUS University excels at it. From the start, BINUS University has always been an academic institution that puts heavy emphasis on technology, especially ones related to information and computers. No doubt, this still translates into its focus even in other subjects such as finance.
BINUS University students not only learn the basics of finance such as economic theory, taxation, and accounting. They also have the opportunity to learn modern finance such as the foundations of artificial intelligence, applied data sciences for finance, and investment analyses. This robust curriculum ensures that students will not only learn the theory of finance, but also learn the modern practices and industry standards of it, so as to not fall behind in today’s rapidly advancing world.
With the rise of digital based finances, and things such as Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligences (AI). These skills will become more and more important in the future, as proficiency in the usage of these software and technologies will become essential to move forward and work ideally in the future. BINUS University strives to allow students to use this knowledge and proficiency not only to do finance, but also to make innovations which will stir up the system in a better direction.
Technology, including Fin-Tech can be viewed as keys which allow humans to do things more effectively and efficiently. Just like most things in life, these keys lead to both good and bad. This is why students are taught the ethics of finance to maintain a professional attitude further into their careers. The students’ success will be attained with a holistic understanding of the knowledge, a strong sense of responsibility, and good ethics.
